About
Fit for purpose. On purpose.
Cromulent: perfectly acceptable, entirely legitimate. The name is the philosophy — software that's exactly right for the job it has to do. We build practical tools for businesses with real problems, and we skip the ceremony: no buzzwords, no process theater, no solutions in search of a problem.
The principals
An engineer and a leader — partners in the work. One builds it right; the other makes sure people can actually use it.
Engineering & Products
James “Jay” Jones
Thirty years building complex systems — telephone switches, cable networks, and carrier firmware trusted to run live in production. Dual degrees in computer and electrical engineering (NC State) and a program-management certificate (Georgia Tech). “Leave it better than you found it” is less a motto than a reflex: a full-stack platform that returned 5,000+ engineering hours, a boot image cut from twelve minutes to two, and stop-gap code that kept carrier networks running on a deadline. He builds the products and the client work.
Leadership, Training & Compliance
Priscilla Jones
Decades of leading teams and training the trainers — the one who turns a process into something people actually follow. Several years as department head for Compliance & Safety at a mid-size shipping company, where herding cats was the day job and getting it right was not optional. She keeps the work organized, adopted, and accountable.
Left it better
A habit, not a slogan. A few from the record:
5,000+ hrs
returned to the business by one full-stack platform — 1,300 entitlements, 4–5 hours saved on each.
12 → 2 min
firmware boot, after moving 300 MB out of a static image — for every engineer, tester, and build, every cycle.
6-year-old image
handed to a top-3 US cable operator during a reported 2023 cyberattack — because the history got archived, unprompted. Good data is good data.
Cromulent is small and deliberate. That's the point.
